GRANTS - SPRING 2003
We are pleased to present to the Irvington School Board the following gifts totaling $34,692.00 for the 2003 spring semester:
IRVINGTON HIGH SCHOOL
Grades 6-12: Amy Falk)-Debate Team. This grant will support the debate team's ability to participate in formal interscholastic tournaments. This type of activity encourages development of public speaking and research skills. Award: $4,041.00
Grades 9-12: (Anne Keary) - This grant will supplement the efforts of the guidance department by funding a consultant who will familiarize students (in small groups of 15), on a specific grade level basis, with the newly created guidance web site so that they may independently access information and activities important to them. Award: $4,000.00
IRVINGTON MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL
Grades 6-12: (Anne Keary) - College Admissions - In an effort to provide comprehensive and timely information, this is a second grant addressing the daunting college admissions process. N.Y. Times national education correspondent, Jacques Steinberg, will provide his insights into how the process actually works. Mr. Steinberg's recently published book, "The Gatekeeper" describes his first hand experience as an admissions officer at a noted college. Award: $2,500.00
Grades 6-12: (Nadine McDermott) - Music - This grant will support the purchase of movable choral risers to enhance sound, visibility, etc. for the ever growing high school and middle school choruses. Award: $4,698.00
IRVINGTON MIDDLE SCHOOL
Grades 6-8: (Bette Carle)- Technology. Repeat grant to support the purchase of 4 additional digital cameras workshops for staff designed to maximize incorporation of the cameras into classroom instruction. Award: $4,423.00DOWS LANE ELEMENTARY 4-5
Grades 4-5: (Dolores Garcia-Blocker) - Technology -ELA, Social Studies, Math and Science. This is additional support for a grant funded for the 2002-2003 school year which will expand the multimedia classroom by funding the purchase of two interactive white boards, two LCD projectors and two color printers. Award: $12,000.00
DOWS LANE ELEMENTARY K-3
Grades K-3: (Sandi Duffield) - Art. This grant will support the purchase of ten art boards to create a permanent display area for student art work. The display will allow for student critique which benefits the educational process by providing discussion, analysis and interpretation. Award: $3,030.00
